VICAM-INECOA CONICET UNJU
Researcher- Professor
Jujuy, Argentina
Yanina Arzamendia (PhD) is currently a researcher of VICAM (Vicuñas, Camélidos y Ambiente) at INECOA-CONICET-UNJu (Instituto de Ecorregiones Andinas, Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas - Universidad Nacional de Jujuy) and Professor at Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias, Universidad Nacional de Jujuy. She works in an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the National Science and Technology System, studying the grazing landscape, its biocultural components, and the contributions of nature to people. She leads projects of conservation and sustainable use of vicuñas and Puna ecosystems. In this context, camelids are key components of the ecosystem, and their research emphasizes the study of these species and their interactions with the other components of the system (vegetation and other domestic and wild vertebrates such as the suri).
She is a member of GECS (South American Camelid Specialist Group), an expert group of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Due to her expertise, she has worked on several camelids management and conservation initiatives in Argentina and other Andean countries.
