Assoc. Prof. Emelda Ngufor Samba, University of Yaounde I, Founder of People Theatre and Cinema for Social Change
Emelda Ngufor Samba is Associate Professor of Performing Arts at the University of Yaounde I, Cameroon. She is Head of Section, Performing Arts and Cinematography and Coordinator, Professional Masters in Cinema, University of Yaounde I, Cameroon. She is Founder of “People Theatre and Cinema for Social Changes”, an Arts association that focuses on the communication of transformative information to indigenous and urban communities through theatre and cinema.
She holds a BA in English Modern Letters and a Professional Masters in Theatre and Cinema from the University of Yaounde I, Cameroon; a Higher Teacher Training Diploma in English Modern Letters from the Higher Teacher Training College Yaounde, and a PhD in Performing Arts from the University of Bayreuth, Germany. She is a member of the African Network for Solar Energy (ANSOLE), the current Secretary General for the Cameroon Professional Women in Science Network, (CaPROWN), a member of The Disability and Inclusion Africa Network, and the Frontiers Research Group. Her research focuses on theatre and cinema as communication media for sustainable social change in both rural and urban settings. She has published extensively in national and international journals and in edited books. Samba is also a field worker: she has run numerous theatre and cinema for development workshops nationally and internationally on renewable energy, gender issues, disability inclusion, reintegration of prisoners into the society, etc
