Phindile Shangase
University of the Free State Senior Lecturer
South Africa
I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Free State, South Africa in the Faculty of Health Sciences. I am the first Editor of the recently published open access book (2023): Co-teaching and co-research in contexts of inequality: Using networked learning to connect Africa and the world (https://vernonpress.com/book/1656). Technology is the current passion of mine in the form of learning analytics, technology enhanced learning, including blended learning and multimodal pedagogies that contribute towards innovative and interactive teaching, learning & assessment practices. My current research projects focus on learning analytics in order to identify valuable data that will give insight to students learning and teaching. Such data will enable identification of the students at risk and opportunities for curriculum development as well as enhancement in teaching methods.
My current role involves co-ordinating the Masters Programme in the Health Professions Education as well as the Faculty Development portfolio. I hold a PhD in Public Health, with a special interest in smoking cessation as well as social determinants of health. I have over 11 years Higher Education teaching, supervision and research experience.
