With 6000 km of coastline and 1M square km of continental shelf, Argentina has a vast marine space. Its high biodiversity and active ecosystem processes are pillars of the environmental, economic and social dimensions of the region. In this session we will go through some central aspects of the biodiversity of a marine region teaming with life with the following presentations:
-Guido Pastorino | Biodiversity of deep-water mollusks from the Argentine continental slope
-Valeria Guinder | Phytoplankton groups of one of the most productive areas of the world ocean
-Rocío Loizaga de Castro / Valeria D’Agostino | Marine mammals of Patagonia, Argentina
At the end, we will discuss how research in marine biodiversity impacts our path towards the Sustainable Development Goals (www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment).
Stay tuned for updates.
