The five
EU Missions, which were launched in September 2021, are a new way to bring concrete solutions to some of our most significant challenges, with ambitious goals to deliver results by 2030.
The EU Missions are grounded in research and innovation and support EU Commission priorities such as the
European Green Deal,
Europe fit for the Digital Age,
Beating Cancer and the
New European Bauhaus, providing directionality to EU policies and supporting the green and digital transitions.
A rich co-creation process has informed the design and formulation of the EU Missions involving the EU Member States and Associated countries and stakeholders. Citizens have also been deeply involved in the design process, as they will be throughout the implementation and delivery phases.
The EU Missions are strongly supported by the EU Member States and Associated countries at national, regional and local levels and have attracted interest from many other countries as setting an example in innovative public policy making.
Now that the EU Missions are fully underway, the intention is to develop their international profile, reflecting the global nature of the challenges that are being addressed and helping to ensure that impacts are felt at the same scale.
EU Mission will contribute significantly towards the SDGs, notably 3,6,7,11,12,13,14,15.
Objectives of the Session:The session will:
- explain and promote the EU Missions to a global audience, benefitting from the branding and promotion of the SSUNGA77
- highlight the contributions that the EU Missions will make towards the SDGs, especially in the context of the SSUNGA 77
- establish a dialogue between the EU Missions and potential actors and organisations, which might lead to future international cooperation
The session should target potential connections to the development community and related funding sources.
In line with the overall aims of the SSUNGA 77, the session should also try to bring out what enabling policy, regulatory and financial environments are needed for global scientific collaborations across continents, nations and themes.
Attention should also be given to the role and contribution of science and science collaborations to attaining the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030, Local2030 and the UN Summit of the Future in 2023. Other themes which may be covered include how research infrastructures work as a driver for international cooperation and promote awareness of data-enabled science and related capacities and infrastructures.
The session will be held at the Flanders House, 620 8th Ave 38th Fl, New York and online08:30 Coffee and welcome in New York Opening words of welcome:
