ABSTRACT: Session on Sustainable Development Objectives 13 and 14: Marine and Coastal Zones in Mexico

Mexico has 11,200 km of shoreline, an adjacent continental platform of 388 thousand square kilometers, 15 670 square kilometers of estuaries and an insular surface of 5 083 square kilometers (DOF, 2018). Mexico is surrounded by three seas, the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. The Sustainable Development Objectives 13 and 14 are very important for the 17 coastal states that Mexico has, and in particular the Gulf of Mexico, where the state of Campeche is located in its south-western portion. This session will present a series of topics that are related to the goals of SDO 13 and 14 for Mexico: Fish diversity evolution through time, coastal communities governance, sustainable aquaculture, coastal erosion and climate change, blue economy and coastal governance, coastal climate variability, wetlands restoration with local communities; and a vision of the SDOs in Mexico.
