The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) guide the Member States in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The interlink and integration of the SDGs in the implementation of guidelines are determining factors for ensuring policy coherence (Renaud et al. al. 2022).

However, specific analyzes are needed to identify the synergies and trade-offs between the goals and their targets to meet globally agreed sustainability objectives. The increase in knowledge generation can fill some existing gaps and help quantify and implement some of the indicators. The Socio-ecological Puna landscape in the high plateau of the Andes supports biodiversity and climate resilience in local production systems. This system is characterized by its intrinsic values, like endemisms and its notable relational values associated with a long-lasting human-land culture. Numerous authors emphasize the need to improve knowledge of the biodiversity of mountain systems, both in their common characteristics and in their singularities.

Currently, several natural and cultural components of the system show little or incomplete information, that includes biodiversity status, spatially explicit data and comprehensive knowledge of drivers and socioecological dynamics of the landscape. A good understanding of the interactions between nature and people, especially for mountain socio-ecological systems, is crucial for reviewing and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this session, we will show examples of Andean ecosystems where different sustainable development strategies are implemented, and we will analyze the synergies and trade-off between SDGs and targets.
